Emission Control is a granulation program written by David Thall (MS, Media Arts and Technology, UCSB 2005). It provides a new interactive real-time program for granular synthesis and sound file granulation, with many novel features, including modulation of synthesis parameters, multiple sound file input, and variable-Q filtering on a grain-by-grain basis.

This Friday, Stephen Travis Pope, Dan Overholt, Graham Wakefield, Wes Smith, and Alex Norman will give an overview of their experiences at the 2007 International Computer Music Conference in Copenhagen as well as present some of their research.

WINTER 2008 COURSE:ENGLISH 236 - Literature Plus: Cross-Disciplinary Models of Literary Interpretation

Because of the recent, shared emphasis in many fields on digital methods, scholars in the humanities, arts, social sciences, and sciences increasingly need to collaborate across disciplines. This course reflects theoretically and practically on the new, digitally-facilitated interdisciplinarity by asking students to choose a literary work and treat it according to one or more of the research paradigms prevalent in other fields of study.

The administrative staff of Media Arts and Technology have moved out of South Hall and onto the third floor of Phelps Hall. The move places the staff closer to the Canlifornia Nanosystems Institute, where the MAT faculty have been allocated offices and lab space for digital multimedia research.

After a comprehensive review, the MAT proposal for a PhD in Media Arts and Technology was approved by the University of California on 20 September 2005.

MAT will be accepting applications for Fall 2006 admission to the PhD program. Prospective applicants should apply online through the Graduate Division.
