Give to MAT

Degree Programs

The Media Arts and Technology Program (MAT) is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental graduate degree program that offers the Master of Science, Master of Arts, and Ph.D. degrees in Media Arts and Technology. In addition to departmental requirements, candidates for graduate degrees must fulfill the university degree requirements found in the chapter "Graduate Education at UCSB" of the UCSB catalog.

What do MAT Graduates Do?

A degree in MAT opens new possibilities for students from traditional disciplines, allowing them to continue in their field (with an important new interdisciplinary perspective) or to branch out on a different path. Media Arts and Technology graduates move on to a wide variety of positions in industry, academia, government, and private practice as researchers, engineers, software developers, designers, artists, faculty members, and more. Many MAT Master's students have gone on to PhD programs at UCSB and elsewhere. Our PhD graduates so far have gone into academia. We have MAT alumni working in the computing industry, in audio companies, in the music business, in startup companies, and as practicing artists.
