Real-Time Color-Mapping of Musical Data for Generative Art:

Generative animations based on music have the potential to create a perceptual experience that allows the observer to feel a cross-modal interaction between the audio and visual domains. Most music visualization software today is very limited in creating visual music that is not based on assigning arbitrary mappings between sound and color. Due to this limitation in visualization frameworks, most visual music created through these programs come across as unexpressive in using color to convey meaning in the music. This project aims to cross that barrier by using several popular color models used in computerized systems to compare to higher level audio parameters. The result is an application created in C++ that uses a mixture of previous research and user design to determine colors displayed in the animation in real-time.
