Getting Keys

Keys to access the student lab area in South Hall will be issued to new students at the beginning of each Fall quarter. These keys will need to be returned upon completion of the program. Please be aware that the doors to the student lab should remain locked to ensure safety and security for all.

Keys to the labs in Elings Hall are issued on an "as needed" basis. If you need a key, the faculty member responsible for the lab should request one on your behalf by sending an email to Lisa Thwing, at lisa (at) mat.ucsb.edu.

Keys are issued by Lisa Thwing in room 3316 in Phelps Hall. If you have any questions, you may contact her at lisa (at) mat.ucsb.edu.

Badge Access to Elings Hall

The doors to Elings Hall are open Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm. Outside of these hours the doors are locked, and a badge is required to gain access to the building. If you need to perform work on a regular basis in a lab in Elings Hall, and require access outside of normal business hours, a badge can be issued to you by the UCSB police department.

To begin, download and print out a CNSI Access Control Application form from the Access and Security page of the CNSI website. At the top of the form, you will need a signature from a MAT faculty member (Advisor or Supervisor). Leave the 13 digit account number field blank. Sign the form at the bottom. The two signatures at the bottom of the form (Department Authorization and CNSI Authorization) should be left blank. Take the completed form to Lisa Thwing in room 3316 in Phelps Hall. You will then be contacted by the UCSB Police department so that you can make an appointment to have your picture taken and receive your badge.

Departmental Mail

Students may pick up mail in the MAT administration office in room 3309 Phelps Hall.

Change of Address

Students who move during the school year or change their phone number must inform the Graduate Program Assistant, and update the information via the GOLD system so a current address and phone number is always on record.
