Re: 12.12 Final Project Description
NEH Abstractions in the early 21st century Abstract: How can something as mundane as NEH grants be made to look interesting and informative? Utilizing data from data.gov, I pulled the XML file that contained the NEH Grants between 2000 and 2010. Roughly around 50,000 grants. In this abstract visual...

Re: 11.21 Status of Work-in-Progress
Progress report: Currently I have all of the NEH grant reports for all of the 2000's. I began looking at Ben Fry's zip code processing code. This is giving me a good idea where to start once I start parsing the XML data from data.gov. Along with playing with that code I began working on getting the ...

Re: 10.10 Cultural Analytics Review + Sketch
Manovich Response Manovich goes on to discuss the ways that information has been visualized and which application would work best for which data sets (interactive v. static). It is interesting to think of our culture as a whole as data. When looking at it at a meta level there are various facets ma...

Visualization is Not a Hard Science I agree with Kosara on the fact that much of visualization today consists of the production of image through data. After all that is what any visualization is be it a script, thought, numbers, we are taking artifacts in the world and the mind and breathing life t...

Re: 1. Respond To Kosara Schneiderman Fry Here
Visualization Criticism Kosara does a good job pointing out the thought and the theory behind traditional critiques for artists from both the academic setting. It is important for us (by us I mean creators and theorists) to understand what are the ideas we are looking for and critiquing. Data visual...
