Abstract:
The International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) is the premiere annual event for the fields of electro-acoustic music and digital audio signal processing. It is a combined technical/humanities conference and concert festival, and alternates between sites in Europe, Asia, and the Americas (recent sites: Singapore, New Orleans, and Barcelona). The 2007 ICMC took place from 27-31 August in Copenhagen, Denmark; it was co-sponsored by the Danish Digital Arts Forum, the University of Aalborg, the Danish Composer's Society, the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the International Computer Music Association. ICMC events were held a several sites in Copenhagen, including the Music Academy, the School of Architecture,
the Tycho Brahe Planetarium, the Queen's Concert Hall, and the Plex Music Theater. MAT faculty member Stephen Pope presented three research papers and co-chaired a panel discussion; the titles of his presentations were:

Notes on a Two-year Course Sequence
Immersive Audio and Music in the Allosphere
Models and APIs for Audio Synthesis and Processing
MAT graduate students presented papers on topics ranging from programming language design for music to enhanced violins for
electro-acoustic music performance. Their contributions were:

On the artistic front, Stephen Pope's new 26-minute music/video piece "Eternal Dream" was shown at the close of the evening video program every evening of the festival at Huset's Cinema in Copenhagen. "Eternal Dream" is included as part of "Ritual and Memory," a triple-disc anthology (2 CDs and 1 DVD) of his music and video works that was released by the New-York-based Electronic Music Foundation and introduced at ICMC 2007.
This presentation will survey the recent advances in the field of computer music and discuss the artistic presentations at ICMC 007.
