Media Arts and Technology
Media Arts and Technology (MAT) is a transdisciplinary graduate program at UCSB in both the College of Letters and Science (Division of Humanities and Fine Arts) and the College of Engineering. MAT offers Master’s and PhD degrees and has approximately 40 graduate students and 10 faculty, several with joint appointments in engineering and arts departments. Areas of expertise include human-computer interaction, electronic music and sound design, computational visual and spatial arts, and multimedia signal processing. Offices and labs are housed in the new California Nanosystems Institute building at UCSB, which includes a unique research facility called the AlloSphere, a three-story spherical immersive environment.
