The Ear of Dionysius not one installation; it is a meta-installation. It is an infrastructure with which any number of installations can be realized. One such realization follows.

Five kiosks are placed in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Inside, each kiosk is this:

A brainwave interface.

The participant puts on the device and thereby assumes the power to communicate with people in the CNSI.

Thoughts are converted into sound. Each participant can trigger an arpeggio by focusing their attention. As participants get better aquainted with the interface, they can launch arpeggios more rapidly. As more concurrent participants engage the installation, the sound becomes increasingly dense.

The sound is broadcast into a space in the CNSI, where it serves the researchers as a reminder of the needs of people "out there".
