wave spot is site-specific sound installation, transforming a public open place into a personal audio-visual site.

This project is about being known and how we as individuals want to be known. There's a very basic concept that most can agree on: we want to be known, greeted, and remembered by our peers to make us feel significant.

But we do everything in our power not to be known by technology. We disguise our email address, we protect our DNA, we hide from surveillance cameras, we keep secret telephone numbers, SSN's, and other personal information.

This projects explores that conflict: a person begins to feel a relationship with this system. It gets to know the person, plays a melody for them as they pass. The melodies improve as the person becomes more of a frequent visitor. It's like a friend that recognizes you and walks with you for a minute. On the other hand, your every movement is recorded for the world to see. Anonymity is lost to the analysis of your every movement, past or present, displayed by the visualization.
