Concept >> Setting

Welcome is set in a Manhattan apartment, at first resembling in all ways a typical city residence. Prior to entering the environment, the observer is given only basic and vague details about the work: that the work is a sound art piece of undefined duration taking place in an apartment. Only after careful attention does an observer realize that their environment is not as natural as it first appears. In actuality, Welcome is a carefully crafted "sound stage," blocking all sound and visual information from the world outside the apartment. The installation replaces the lacking ambient noise with realistic or near-realistic (hyperreal) perceptual stimuli.

The realistic reconstruction and subtle manipulation of the sonic landscape is the focus of Welcome.
