The deterministic ambiance of Welcome will be composed ahead of time, stored, and played back by a decoding system built to the specifications of the particular installation space.
Microphones will be placed outside the apartment to record the surrounding environment. These sounds can be mixed into the apartment in real time or stored later use.
Recorded conversation between audience members will be used as input into the system. In the likely event that multiple conversations are occurring simultaneously, it will be necessary to separate individual speech signals. An automated system will then scan the recorded speech for recognizable words or phrases and reinsert these keywords into the environment.
